JVC GZ-HD620 Camcorder Review

Bookmark and Share

Here is a review I did with JVC’s newest HD Camcorder GZ-HD620.

Just a simple no bs review in real time taking some footage both inside and outdoors. I am very impressed with this GZ-HD620BU. It is JVC’s current year model that I give 5 stars and a big thumbs up!

This is a fantastic camcorder for the family – or for a small business like I have doing budget internet marketing services. Only possible complaint is, if your shooting small areas a wide angle lens is a must.

I do not use the included software which may be ok, I honestly don’t know. I copy all the hd .mts files to my computer hard drive. Then i use Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 to add audio over the time line and produce as an mpg2 file at 720p resolution. This file size is 1.4 GB which is then converted with AVS Video Converter to the newer flash video format .flv which I self stream from my website. The converted file size is a very manageable  97 Megabytes.

If you produce your videos this way they can be uploaded to YouTube in this format, which is much faster uploading if you have a slow net connection, and is what YouTube converts your uploads to anyway.  This also gives you the ability to record in the best quality without worrying about size limits.

Hey docsnetservices – I had the same bad experienced with the 2009 JVC model. Last year I bought the JVC – HD200 which is a great camcorder other than in indoor and low light filming conditions were SO bad which I returned. I ended up buying the Sony XR200 and I had the same problems and returned it. Now I’m looking at this JVC HD620 but I’m hesitant of the low light noise (Lo Lux) can you provide a clip of how it performs in low light? I’m looking at this one and the Sony XR350 or perhaps the Panasonic hDC- HS60. I like JVC features but the low light and indoor performance is a must.

I did a video with a couple of clips taken inside in what i considered low light. You can see another video of me opening a package inside. It was done with the last JVC HD i had. Can’t remember the model number it was.

I will take a few clips outside tonight after dark and post them for you.

Hey docsnetservices, I just bought JVC GZ-HD620 HD Camcorder, when I took some pohots(1920×1080) and video clip(1920×1080, fine) indoor, the quality of picture is not clear and outstanding than I image, it is even a little bit blur than I did outside. If I took a photo using DC (3.2mp) with similar resolution, i.e. 1600×1200, it is more clear ane detailed than camcorder, I think it has similar sensor, why the quality of picture is so different?

    Hi Doc.
I was wondering if you could upload a raw 24mbps 1080i/p video sample of at least 30seconds?
Watching your video above looks more like SD on my 26in LCD….I hope that doesn’t offend you.

I’ve been trying to find full HD video samples of these camcorders, but they always seem to be scaled.
    The optical zoom is impressive.

You could use something like megaupload or rapidshare if u like….I would really appreciate it.
    I left my email.

    Thx very much.

    David Lawson.

Just found this site and I really like it. Just started researching camcorders a few days ago.

I have to agree with David Lawson about uploading the Full HD Video samples as is, with no conversions.

I’ve been trying to find real video’s. Which I know would take up a lot of space, but it’s hard to truly compare without seeing the raw video, even if it’s 30 sec or 1 min.

I think Rapidshare or Megaupload would be great, can do it with free accounts for both. Megaupload is really fast for free users, well if you sign up as a free user anyways. I just started using JDownloader ( jdownloader.org ) and really like it, makes it really easy to download from these download services. You can input your user-name and password for these services (free or paid) and it remembers. It does the captcha things automatically for you with Megaupload, I assume for others also. If you want to upload to Rapidshare, I recommend RUM ( reupper.com ) Even if the videos would be 1gb or 1.5gb it would still be worth your time. I’m sure if you worded your tags right others would find your site eventually when they also try to find raw camcorder footage to compare models.

If you do decide to upload to one of these sites maybe ask people’s input for correct tags. Just a thought. I’m to new to this stuff to help out at all.

    Thanks for your time,

    SB ME

Thanks for both of your comments.

I initially put this site online to host a promotional video for a client. We were using YouTube at the time but were having problems with the videos stalling. You tube has since apparently added capacity to their servers, so we use them for our clients if their time is under 15 minutes.

Anyway back to this site. I have just been using it as a hobby since it’s already up and running. The video server itself is written in php by a gentleman, Eric Lorenzo Benjamin JR of stream.xmoov.com it is a flash server and requires all videos to be converted to flash format. I believe that no matter what is uploaded to sites like YouTube etc, they convert it to flash FLV format. I have been producing my videos in 720p then converting to FLV with AVS video converter.

I have not taken any recent footage but do have a lot of raw footage in MTS format. I will pull one out of the archive and run it through the converter at 1080i and see how it comes out.

Here is a test I did this morning using 2 MTS clips in 1080P and I also converted both of those to FLV Flash format for this test.

Wow! You genuinely covered this subject perfectly. Are there other sources that i must verify out?
