Before Buying A Northern Car Watch This Video!

Bookmark and Share

OMG!

From YouTube – There are some colorful metaphors in the audio track so beware.. LOL!

City workers destroy a Ford Expedition trying to free a snowbound front-loader in Brooklyn Heights, New York after the storm of 2010. The crazy thing here….the vehicle WAS…. wait for it…. A NYC Dept of Buildings city owned vehicle. I went down, I know the owner, they are aware of the video and no police ever came.

So.. No Cops = No Police Report = CarFax Will Be ACCIDENT FREE On That Vehicle! From what i have heard this is a common occurrence in NYC and probably elsewhere in the Rust Belt as well.  So the next time you are on the Internet shopping for a car, avoid the northern vehicles.

Wouldn’t you really rather have a “Clean Rust Free Southern Ride” :)

Were You Around During The Dial Up BBS Days?

Bookmark and Share

I Was.. :)

I was always fascinated with Electronics as a young boy and hung around a local TV shop after school. Back in those days (60′s) we had vacuum tubes and the components were soldered together using terminal strips. Then soon came the Transistor and IC.

Fast forward to the very early 90′s and I acquired an old IBM clone 286/12 PC. (no thanks to AL Jacobs) That thing was as heavy as a cinder block and slower than a snail. It had an internal 2400 Baud Modem installed and a terminal program for dialing up other computers.  I soon found a number for a local BBS and dialed it up. It was interesting to see messages others had left, and to download shareware computer programs that would run on the old 286.

One of the files i had downloaded was a test drive of Wildcat Bulletin Board Software V2x. I had another phone line installed to receive calls and Doc’s Place BBS was born in 1991. And that is what this posting is about. Doc’s Place BBS still lives on to this day, though the dial up nodes are long gone.

In 2000 I converted it to run off the Internet dialing up to an early MSN Internet Service. It accepted both Telnet and HTTP connections. It was pretty much dead 1n 1999 when most callers started exploring the Internet. But taking the BBS to the Internet brought another 10 years of life to a dying hobby. Word soon spread that Fidonet was still available on the Internet and the old time users flocked to it from all over the world.  However I’m sad to say that it is dying again.

Calls are way down and i see vultures flying overhead. I guess the old days of text based and ansi are finally becoming extinct.  But here is a video archive of the BBS days and how they became. If your an old timer like me,  Reminisce back in time to these early personal PC days. And if the BBS was before your time, have a look and see how we did it 20+ years ago.

Aerobatic Flying At Sun N Fun 2009 Lakeland Fla

Bookmark and Share

This is a couple of clips taken with a Sony DSC-H2 Camera.

We attended the annual Sun N Fun Fly In at Lakeland’s Linder regional Airport, in 2009. I was going through some old files and found these 3 clips. Kind of a boring day so might as well play with em for a bit.

As usual i loaded the default mpg files out of the Sony DSC-H2 Camera into Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 Ultra and gave them a touch of video enhancement. Next i re-produced them as a DVD quality MPG file, then converted that to FLV format with AVS Video Converter.

The results were decent considering what i had to work with.  I love Flying but would rather watch the aerobatics from the ground.  Here is an album of snapshots i took at Sun N Fun on my Facebook Album. Lots of neat old Warbirds and other Aircraft.

Also if you love old Antique Aircraft, here are some photos I took in 2006 of Howard Hughes, Spruce Goose at Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville Oregon. That Bird Is HUGE!

Miami Vice Clip From The 80′s

What a nasty day down here in paradise.. Raining and gloomy outside.

I was watching an old Miami Vice TV show I recorded years ago on a VCR tape and decided to convert it to digital format. I usually use a screen capture device to record an avi file then convert that into an mpg. Once converted to mpg it’s easy to convert that to flv so i can stream it here.

A file can also be converted to any mobile device format to watch when on a plane or on a long drive. I use Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 Ultra to produce my movies, and AVS Video Converter to convert my media files.

If you have old VCR Tapes that need converted to DVD Format contact me.

Here is a snippet of this old show.. Good ole days in Miami! :)

JVC GZ-HD620 Camcorder Clips Self Streamed At 720P

Here are several clips taken by Steven while on vacation in the USA.

There are scenes from New York City, Niagara Falls, Orlando Fla, and a time lapse shot in Miami Fla. This is the same camera i bought back in March this year and reviewed HERE and HERE.

The clips were downloaded from YouTube via KeepTube as 720p mp4′s and then loaded into Cyberlink Powerdirector 8 Ultra, then produced as an mpg at 720p. The final step was to convert the mpg file into a self streaming flv file with AVS Video Converter. The video and preview files were then uploaded with FTP to my server.

This is an excellent camcorder for anyone looking for a first camcorder, or upgrading from an older SD camcorder. I actually met Steven here when he asked a few questions about my initial review, and wound up buying the same camcorder. We have kept in touch and he shared these videos with us.

I have been told the battery life is not the greatest on the gz-hd620 but for the low price of this unit and all the features it has its just best to buy an extended life battery or carry a spare with you when planning on recording long videos. This camcorder blows away its Sony comparison. So far the best place i have found to buy online is Amazon.com. Prices have came down a bit since i bought mine in March.
